IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL HOUSEOWNERS WITHIN THE FLOODPLAIN
- It is necessary to familiarize yourself with the Floodline Information pack provided by the Environment Agency. Extra copies available from Andrew Wigley (741772) or Don Harrod (741713), the Flood Wardens for Salthouse.
- Register your property with the Environment Agency to receive Floodline Warnings Direct to a landline, mobiles, fax & e-mail. Contact: 0845 988 1188 or register online: www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods
- Owners of holiday cottages must advise all their visitors of the possibilities of flooding, what the warnings mean and what actions should be taken in the event of a possible flooding.
- If a Flood Warning is given, the Flood Wardens will try to ensure that all occupants of homes adjacent to the Coast Road are notified. The Flood Wardens will advise what action to take and when to evacuate and move to the British Columbia Hall. If a vulnerable or disabled person has difficulty leaving, the emergency services will be informed and professional assistance provided.
- It is dangerous for anyone to drive along Beach Road or walk down Mill Drift during stormy weather and when flooding is likely. This can seriously delay the life- saving work being carried out by the Flood Wardens and the emergency services.
