1) Improved Broadband for Salthouse
Sue Johns reported that BT Open Reach had emailed the Parish Council. The first direct contact was on Thursday 5th June 2014 when Sue Johns and Sarah Dawson met with Open Reach on the village green. They wish to site a new ‘green’ box which cannot be more than 100 m from the existing one. The preferred site is directly behind the village green bus shelter.
They had been informed re risk of flooding but BT were relaxed about it. The existing green box had been flooded but continued to work.
There would be a minimal disruption if this site were used, as trench only has to go from existing box to new one
On the signature of the Parish Council then Open Reach would reassess the site. The only alternative is by Cookies, which would cost them a lot more. A single payment would be made to the Parish Council if the bus shelter site used.
The box would be sited soon but the main trench for cabling to the main telephone exchange (Holt) would be done in the autumn after the summer season over.
Speeds of 60 to 80 would be expected on the front but only 10 -13 in Cross Street and Purdy Street.
The speed would slow the further away one was from the new green box.
Proposal - The Parish Council agree to the siting of a DSL AM cabinet on the village green (immediately behind the bus shelter) by Open Reach with a view to enhanced Broadband for the whole village.
Proposed Sue Johns, Seconded Nat Cary, Motion carried unanimously.
2) Siting of the bench.
Sarah Dawson brought up about the siting of a new village bench. She suggested it went opposite the duck pond. She queried if all this is village green. The clerk to check and report at next meeting so a decision can be made. The village green itself is a possibility but would require waiting for until the final decision made re fencing etc. The donors wish to get on with this as a memorial bench. Decision to be made at next council meeting.
