Village Hall Management Committee

Salthouse Village Hall Management Committee
Annual Report  May 2021-2022

This year began with us slowly emerging from the COVID pandemic.  Whilst COVID  has been utterly devastating for many families and businesses, for our Village Hall and many across the land, the grants given to us by the Government have been a life-saver.  I do thank our treasurer for making the first approach but subsequently the grants have been paid automatically.

As a result of the funds made available, we have been able to implement some projects that we would only have been able to dream of.

Firstly we replaced the fencing around the Bowls Green. Our thanks go to Richard Cooke for doing all the labour and painting the fence.  We have also set aside funds for a new lawnmower for the Bowls Club to be purchased when they resume playing.

A state of the art fire alarm system has been installed. This may have been more than was required but we will now meet any future regulations.

The doors of the hall have been given a coat of stain  and a new lock was fitted to the stage door.

Forty new chairs were purchased to replace some of the old wooden chairs.

After a very wet Autumn/Winter the rear carpark became waterlogged and had to be closed off.  We have had a new entrance drive laid in the hope that this will, at least make the approach to the carpark more weatherproof.

A Gardener has been employed to cut down and clear the edges around the carpark but the grass is kept under control by Richard Gayfer who regularly cuts it and our thanks go to him.

We still have some major projects to complete in order to maintain the fabric of the building but these are now attainable.

The hall has been used for a funeral wake and a 90th Birthday celebration. Coffee mornings are now up and running on the first Wednesday of the month. All are welcome.

Our Salthouse Art Group has begun again, meeting on Wednesday afternoon 2 till 4.

We have a John Hurst Art Exhibition coming on 27th  May and we have had enquires for future exhibitions and Art Group Classes.

The hall is self funding and requires the support of the Village to continue. It is our flood meeting point and an independent space for meetings. Our income comes from people renting the hall and car park. We have increased our fees this year taking into account increase in cost for heating and professional cleaners, when required. The Parish Council make a donation for our insurance and we thank them.

I would like to thank the committee for their support and help during this year and now hand over the  task of Chairperson to Sally Cary for the forthcoming year
